Everwayne - what is it and how we create it

In short - it's a mixture of Slay the Spire, The Binding of Isaac, and Hollow Knight. The player manages a squad, completes quests, manages a deck of cards, and, of course, replays again and again.

Imagine that you defeated the main boss, Tyrant, completed the game, received an achievement, and, to celebrate, texted on Discord about how great you are. Others congratulate you and ask what you think about The Evilest Frog at the end. And you’re like: “What frog?”

Our goal is to create something that the community will be discovering for a long time. Something full of secrets.

Completing tasks, and receiving achievements - all this opens up the opportunity to unlock one or another new card, a new relic, or even a whole new location during the next playthrough.

Plot

The world of Everwayne withers under the rule of the Tyrant. Their poisonous grip destroys the once beautiful world. However, hope is not lost yet, because there are heroes ready to destroy evil and return the world to its former prosperity. Or at least... that's what is expected from heroes, right?

While we are planning 4 main characters, there will be more in the future!

Veteran

The Veteran wears heavy armor and is proficient with heavy weapons. Great for both defense and offense, a versatile hero!

But there is sadness and regret under his helmet... What happened to him in the past?

Gladiator

Each swing of Gladiator’s sword is a battle for glory, and each victory becomes a legend. His strength and skill are unmatched, and his look full of determination suggests that the Gladiator is ready to fight fate itself for the sake of victory.

And remember: the more scars on his body, the more painful for the enemies. And he has lots of scars...

Olwkin

Owlkin - the embodiment of the Avian people. A cunning genius who bends ice, souls and arcana.

Owlkin gaze is aimed at successfully carrying out the greatest experiment in his life, maybe even in whole world's history. Will his own ambitions get in the way of becoming the savior of the world?

Wolf

The Wolf is a fierce Beastman who has embarked on the path of self-discovery.

Nature tells him to be an animal, to tear flesh and drink blood of his enemies. But something inside guides him, makes him see the light and become someone else.

The Wolf may not know what is happening, but he will definitely do everything possible to figure out who he really is. Even if he has to eliminate everyone who gets in his way...

Gameplay

Everything we find in the world is presented in the form of cards. Each character has its own standard sets of abilities and skills. We find them while exploring the world.

Here's gameplay sneak peek:

The battlefield consists of 8 cells - 4 for each side.

The deck of cards is divided into 3 parts: hand, draw, and discard. We take cards from the draw into our hand and play them using mana. After the turn ends, the cards from your hand are discarded.

And so on until the stack for drawing cards runs out. The discard is then shuffled and returned to the draw.

Details of the gameplay and lore may change - we are just developing the game!

Difficulty

The difficulty of the game is determined by the number of heroes. The more there are, the harder the game. But we don't have to go into battle as a quartet.

The content while playing fewer heroes is different. The heroes receive other skills, which can be used due to the free space around them, other quests appear in the world, which adds replayability.

Design

The game is made in a 2D style. Memorable characters, beautiful backgrounds, and, of course, clickable torches on the map - all this sets the warm atmosphere of a classic adventure.

Sounds

We record most of the sounds for Everwayne by ourselves without the slightest difficulty - clinking chains, knocking on the door, crackling fire.

But what about magical, otherworldly sounds? This is where you have to play with your imagination!

For example, a mix of sounds. To create the sound of a poisonous attack, our sound designer Arseniy poured coke into wet sand - the result was this effervescent, wet, hard sound.

Like the Oxenfurt Toad Prince's spit, right?

Can I try the game now?

Not yet. But don't be upset! We are planning to release it first in early access and very soon.
